Should we sell moose tags to hunters?
Nah, lets drop wolves from airplanes instead.

They did it once before.
Then again, they were allowed to have and most had guns back then. Now they might have a harder time.

The four wolves were dropped into a wildlife refuge within a national park. Building a healthy predator population that had previously been wiped out by irresponsible hunters is a better long term solution than letting people hunt in a wildlife refuge.

Don’t we all. Too bad the only one crashed.

How are the hunters irresponsible? Unless you mean poaching; then the tag question is moot.

Were allowed to bare arms, it’s just that often it’s too cold for short sleeves.
Were also allowed to bare legs, bare chests usually gets you funny looks though.

I was referring to the hunters/trappers who decimated the Grey Wolf population in the US prior to the enactment of the ESA. What they did was legal, but irresponsible from an ecological standpoint. Obviously not all hunters act this way.

The wolves were dropped onto Isle Royale which is a very isolated island in the middle of Lake Superior. The wolf population on Isle Royale was not wiped out by hunters, it plummeted because they quite literally inbred themselves into oblivion. The two wolves that were left before they started importing wolves this summer were a male and his daughter/niece/granddaughter/wife/sister.

What an interesting case study. I’d never heard of it before.

Yeah, there has been a wolf/moose study running on Isle Royale for 50+ years. Their goal all along has been to let nature take its course and not interfere with the natural order of things. They threw that out the window when nature started not behaving the way they wanted it to.

Yeah, it seems like they’re turning what was a very unique, natural case study, into an open air lab. However, some of the articles I read on it mention that the original moose may have been s tocked their by sport hunters. If that’s the case, I could see a need for unfucking the situation. However, if they also crossed an ice bridge, as the wolves did, then I think it’s better to sit back and observe.
